Notebooks
MOOSE stands for Management of Organizational Skills Everyday. Many schools use this for all grades and actually purchase the notebooks with school name and mascot on them. I learned of the MOOSE at a Leap Frog workshop. K-teachers are the only ones who use them at our campus but many parents, after leaving our k program, say they miss the MOOSE! At the beginning of the year I purchase 3-ring binders from Wal-Mart for 99 cents each. If you will look down every isle, you can find them in all colors (solid). I get them in various colors. Many times they will have the black and gray ones at front of store advertised for 99 cents BUT go find the colored ones....same price! I used to paint MOOSE on the front but now I paint the child's name and paint insects, cars, hearts, flowers, etc., on each one. I have them in the cubbies for the first day of school and the kids are so proud of them!

Work the other for Important Notices ( school memos, permission slips,
school picture envelopes) spiral notebook titled:
Parent/Teacher Communication I check MOOSE binders each day for notes and lunch money, etc.. I have never had a problem with students bringing the MOOSE each day! If you do, you can put a sticker on the date the child brings MOOSE to school on the calendar in the MOOSE each day, I did that the first year but it was a waste of time because all students brought the binder to school each day so there was no need for the incentive. calendar contains weekly units, school pic dates, due dates for readers, due dates for Book-It etc...happy b-days, special days( hat day,field trips, hatching day, special school dates, PTO dates etc..... weekly newsletter has a place for reminders, thank-you's, birthdays, special events, what we are din this week, help wanted, etc..........HOMEWORK if you give it, and snack dates and reminders.
