About
YEK
You are looking at the final project for the Summer 2000 Teachnet internship. Five students from Youth Entrepreneurs of Kansas (YEK) spent 6 weeks in the offices of Teachnet during June and July, learning about various aspects of web production including: page layout, content creation, how search engines work and how to manage a website. While they may not all go on to become webmasters, they agree that internships provide a priceless lesson in "real world" job markets. All teachers at every level in every subject play a part in career development. Here, interns share their thoughts on how you can play your role more effectively, keep their attention and get them excited about life after high school. ![]() There are many opportunities for teachers to help students in real life applications and these next few pages will let you know what interns think should be a part of a students education. In addition to learning about internships in general, we will show you a glimpse into the "Teachnet Project." YEK was started in
1991 by Charles and Elizabeth Koch as nonprofit organization for students
in local high schools. The program is a class that can be taken in high
school to learn more about the functions of the business world and of
being an entrepreneur. After the class students have the opportunity to
stay involved through Internships, community service, and activities that
relate to business. YEK Students learn how to buy and sell for a profit, start and maintain a successful business, the importance of networking, and how to present themselves in a business manner. Every aspect of a business is looked at to provide the basics in operations/management, marketing, finance, and human resources. Go To Page 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | Video
